The movie
"Under The Nose"
(Israel 1982) is one of those movies that have place of honor in the history of movie making in Israel. The movie was so successful in Israel, that leading actor
Uri Gabriel
is still known as Sammy Ben-Tovim more than 20 years later (just as
Mark Hamill
is remembered as Luke Skywalker).
Plot summery:
The story of petty-criminals planning an impossible big-hit: The break to police headquarters in order to steal a safe containing enormous amount of money.
The movie takes the viewer to Tel-Aviv-slams of the late 70's, where the gang hook-up, plan, and go for the big hit. As the story unfolds we get to witness special relationship of respect between the veteran law-breakers and police detectives. While on the other hand, police officials take the ruff-path when dealing with newcomers.
The maker of the movie integrated some well known names in Israel of the late 70'+ into the story:
The leader of the group, Ezra Janna, got the nick-name "Climbing Cat" - named after a famous burglar that was active in Tel-Aviv of those times.
Why "Climbing Cat"? because he use to break into apartments at 3rd floor and above, by climbing up to the window. Never went for the 1st or 2nd floor.
